Verna Allerdings
Verna Ruth (Smithlin) Allerdings, 89, passed away August 16, 2012 in Pasco, Washington after a short illness.
Verna was born in Tacoma, Washington on March 3, 1923 to Leon Smithlin and Jessie Catherine (Haney) Smithlin. She graduated from Lincoln High School where she was active in the debate club.
She worked at the Northern Pacific Railroad in the mid '40s where she met her husband, Hilbert (Tuffy) Allerdings. In later years, she worked for Tacoma Screw Products as a bookkeeper, retiring from there in 1984.
Verna enjoyed bowling and was very proud of her 300 pin. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, including competitive games of cards or Scrabble with her sisters. In her later years she gained a love of hats and was almost never seen without one. She often told people that she had over 100 hats.
Verna is survived by her sister Cora Larson, of Tacoma; daughter Christine Allerdings, of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter Peggy and son-in-law Donald Avery, of Parker, AZ; granddaughter Krystle and husband Del Avery of Pasco; granddaughter Dawn Ingram and grandson Douglas Avery, of Walla Walla; great-grandchildren Caleb Avery, Nichole Avery, Benjamin Ingram; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Hilbert Allerdings and her siblings Donald, Harold, Iva Miller, John, and Mary Ringos.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in the Aspen Chapel, Mountain View Celebration of Life Center.
