Verlia S. Morton's Obituary
Verlia died peacefully at home May 20, 2006 at the age of 78, after fighting a valiant battle with cancer. She was born April 3, 1928 in Sioux City, Iowa. Verlia attended Nebraska State Teacher's College and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She then moved on to Chicago to work for Western Union Telegraph Co. She was transferred to San Francisco where she met John Morton (1922 -1976), who she later married. They settled in the Puget Sound area. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and she worked at Commonwealth Title Co for 27 years. Her tireless efforts in the community included her bowling league, bridge club, church organizations, Tacoma schools and public library. She had a zest for helping children succeed in life through education and reading. A brother, Harvey Holcomb, 4 children, Patricia Bacon, Judy Sacha, Larry Morton, and Daniel Morton, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, survive her. The family would especially like to thank Senta Pozgay, Franciscan Hospice, and Euna McGann for their loving care and devotion. A memorial service will be at Grace Baptist Church, 2507 N Vassault, Tacoma, Saturday, May 27 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name can be made to Grace Baptist Church.
