Verla Rae Jossy's Obituary
Verla Rae Jossy crossed the great divide between this life and the next on Wednesday April 19, 2006. She lived her life in service of a higher calling and surely her ascension was simply a promotion to serve on a higher level. She was born May 21, 1936 and lived all her life in the Tacoma/Lakewood area. She was preceded by her parents Helen Palmer and Rod Wilson, her husband Lt. Col. Carl Jossy. She is survived by her children Lonnie Dean Boesen, Randy Boesen, David Boesen and Angela Jossy and her grandchildren Eric Boesen, Ashley Boesen, Andy Boesen, Tyler Boesen and Jessica Grant-Jossy. She is also survived by her lifelong friends from the Â"Class of 54 ClubÂ" who were like sisters to her: Beverly Corrington, Dixie Dunbar-McAdams, Sally Gardner, Hazelle Gjerde, Delene Gaxiola, Barbara Gelman, Shirley Gemmell, Beverly Hamilton, Doris Russell and Mary Thorsen. It cannot be overstated that Verla had a profound effect on her environment and everyone who entered into it. She strived to be the embodiment of Gods love and to reflect that love onto others. People who met her were changed by the experience. She wanted to beautify everything she touched, from the delicious family dinners with elaborate table dressings, to her head-to-toe matching outfits, her home and garden and especially her relationships. She turned every conversation toward the positive and provided great comfort and insight to anyone who came to her for support. She was devoted to God, family, friends and the Christian Science Church where she served as organist for many years, First Reader and as a Christian Science Practitioner.Verla had a great love of music. She taught piano lessons and was board member of the Tacoma Opera Guild where she served briefly as President. She also served her community through the Lakewood Ministerial Association. The family would like to express gratitude for the exceptional loving careVerla was given by Madigan Army Medical Center, Franciscan Hospice House and Debbie Richardson. Memorial donation may be made to Franciscan Hospice House.
