Verda N. Gitt's Obituary
Verda was born into the family of Joseph and Della Cool in Kearney, Nebraska on August 23, 1928, and passed away November 4, 2005 in Puyallup, Washington. She grew up on a farm in the Riverdale, NE area, and was preceded in death by her mother in 1935. She met LaVern Gitt, the love of her life, at a carnival in Kearney and were married October 28, 1945. They moved to Washington in January 1947, and resided in Enumclaw until they moved to Puyallup in 1948. Verda was a homemaker and did child care in her home for 30 years, where she potty trained almost half of the kids in Puyallup between the mid 50s until she retired with LaVern in 1983. They had a wonderful 22 years of travel, including a 6 month trek across the U.S. in their motor home, and trips to Israel, Australia and New Zealand. They made numerous trips to Hawaii, and had a winter home in Indio, CA for the past 18 years where they made many friends. On Sunday, October 30th, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with all their family present.Mom was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Family was always her priority, and even through all their years of travel, they were always home for holidays. Everyone who knew mom loved, respected and appreciated her, and we will miss her terribly.She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Marie Zimmerman, Lorraine Plischke and Mildred Goodrich. She is survived by her husband, LaVern, her son Michael (Linda) of Renton, and daughters Patsy McKay (Chuck) of Puyallup and Stacey Buckmaster (Tim) of Graham; her 8 grandchildren, Chuck McKay Jr., Ken McKay, Kim Peterson, Lee and Geoff Gitt, Lynsey Schneider, and Jackie and Jeri Buckmaster, 7 great-grandchildren and two more on the way, one brother, Gerald Cool of Auburn, one sister, Roberta Tobias of Sargent, NE, and 39 nieces and nephews. Grandma Gitt is also survived by her Â"day care familyÂ" who are too numerous to list.Church attendance was also a big part of her life, and she enjoyed worshipping at the Puyallup Church of the Nazarene, where there will be a celebration of her life at 1PM on Friday, November 11th. Inurnment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park.
