Vera Lu Miehls
Vera Lucille Miehls was born July 26, 1918 to George Benton Harsh and Flossie May (nee Duncan) Harsh during the Spanish Influenza Epidemic in Waterville, WA. Vera Lu was the oldest of four children. Her family moved to Omak, WA in her childhood and she graduated from Omak High School in 1936. Vera Lu then went on to Whitworth College to become a nurse. In 1941 she went to work for Dr. Jenknins in Omak, and met Richard "Dick" Miehls who worked up the street at the barbershop.
Dick and Vera Lu married in February of 1947 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. After a few moves, they settled back in Omak where Dick owned a barbershop on Main Street. They had 3 children: Don, Carol Sue and Randy.
After her husband retired in 1985, Vera and Dick traveled in their RV, spending several winters in Mazatlan Mexico where they made many close friends. After spending time snow birding between Mexico and their home in Rathdrum, Idaho, they decided to settle in Apache Junction, Arizona, where they lived until Dick's dearth in 2011.
Vera Lu spent her last two years living in Lakewood, WA near her son Randy, where she spent many hours with family and loving friends before passing away December 21, 2013.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dick Miehls, her eldest son Don in 1970, her brother Rand Harsh and sister Rosemary Christensen.
Vera Lu is survived by her son Randy (Maggie) Miehls of lakewood, WA her daughter Carol Sue Overhauser of Spokane, sister Patricia (Rick) Hansen, grandson Brian (Overhauser), granddaughtersa Michelle Weidermann and Darcy Miehls. Many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren also survive her.
Announcements will be made regarding a memorial service for Vera Lu, which will be held in Omak later on in the Spring, per her request.
