Veola Flynn's Obituary
Missionary Veola Flynn went home to the Lord peacefully June 15, 2018 at the age of 82. She was at her home with her family by her side in Tacoma, WA as she peacefully passed.
Veola was born March 8, 1936 in Columbus, GA to Samuel and Iola Martin. It was in Columbus where she met SFC John Flynn Sr. where they married July 12, 1952. Veola was a homemaker and a military wife. She traveled around the world due to John’s many changes in duty stations, which incited her passion to travel and expanded her ministry of spreading the gospel. In 1961, john and Veola were stationed at Fort Lewis WA. They packed up seven of their soon to be 13 children and made Tacoma their home. Veola dedicated her life to her family. She believed family should always stick together. She had a saying she always went by “either you’re with us or against us”. To this day, that saying is significant in keeping the Flynn family bond strong. Veola loved and cared for each of her children. She would often bring people in need in her home and raise them like her own. Many still call her mom. As much as Veola loved her children, nobody could deny her the deeper love for her grandchildren. She would say, “Nobody bet not mess with my grandbabies”. Family gatherings at the house were very frequent and unplanned. She enjoyed the family together with food, music and dancing. And someone had better bring her Nilla Wafers! Beside her love for family and travel, Veola loved to shop! She had a large collection of shoes and an extravagant collection of what she would call her “missionary” hats. In approx. 1971, Veola found her church home at New Jerusalem C.O.G.I.C., where she faithfully served under Bishop T.L. Westbrook and Dennis McCain. Veola was a self-proclaimed soldier for Christ and she believed in the power in prayer. Her goal was to bring as many souls to Christ so we can all walk the streets of gold. Her walk with God affected many as she dedicated her life to visiting and praying for the sick, feeding the hungry and spreading the Gods love throughout the community. Her ministry was known in Tacoma, or wherever she traveled. She served God faithfully until called one of his most fiery and sanctified soldiers home.
Veola was survived by her children, Shirley Williams, John F. Flynn JR (Dick), Charles C. Flynn (Joanne), John Frederick Flynn (Fred), Eric Flynn, Chris Flynn, Dennis Flynn SR, Janis Kirven (Larry), Mark Flynn, Brian Flynn, Samuel Flynn (Jody) and Mechelle Flynn. Honorary son Frank Jackson
