Velzora Leona Stark's Obituary
Velzora Leona Stark is now at peace. She went home with our Lord on Monday, March 20, 2017.
Velzora was born the youngest of seven children to Charles and Gena (Momb) Frannea on July 18, 1929. She moved to Tacoma, Washington from Minnesota as a teenager and graduated from Lincoln High School. While clerking at Sears, Roebuck & Co., she met and then married Herbert E. Stark. For fifty years they were partners in gardening, running their cattle off the highway, sailing by catamaran, and various business adventures.
Velzora loved the Lord. She faithfully attended the Lutheran Church and gave years of service as a Sunday school teacher and church secretary, and was always involved in various organizations supporting Christian missions and Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. She compiled, illustrated, and published a congregational favorite recipes cookbook to raise funds for her church’s elementary school while living in British Columbia, Canada. Her faith in Jesus was the center of her life, and a heritage she passed on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wherever she resided, hobbies Velzora enjoyed were reading, crocheting, and oil painting. She was an amazing cook. Nothing was better than “Grandma’s oatmeal”.
Velzora was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her beloved sister Gail Pederson, and brothers Manfred, Axel, Russell, Norman and Myron Frannea. She is survived by three daughters: Jayne McCourt (Jerome), Kathi Minton (Rusty), and Evette Liebelt (Dennis). She is also survived by grandchildren: Mylena Rayeski, Eryn, Claire and Michael McCourt, Jeanne Powell, Caitlin Nettlebeck, Michelle Minton, Samuel, Benjamin and Joseph Liebelt, 13 great-grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 11 am at Parkland Lutheran Church, which is located at 120 123rd St. S. Tacoma, WA. (At the southwest corner of 123rd St. S. and Pacific Ave.)
