Velma Elaine Walker's Obituary
Velma Elaine Walker
Velma was peacefully called home to her Lord in the early morning of October 31, 2018 with her family at her side. Mom was a very generous, caring and loving person who was always willing to help others.
Velma was born on June 8, 1928 in Vegreville, Alberta, Canada to John and Alice (Berge) Volk, the eldest of five children. In 1931 the family moved from Canada to Tacoma, Washington, where they moved several times during her childhood until settling into the home that her dad built on 66th and Alder. She graduated from Lincoln High School and was working at Nalleys when she met and fell in love with William Walker. They were married on June 25, 1946 at the Manitou Park Church. Together they had two children, Bill and Diana.
Velma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved watching the Seattle Mainers and spending time with her family.
Velma worked as a cashier at the "Villa Thriftco" in Lakewood, Washington. She was a beloved and respected worker to her fellow employees and especially to her customers. Always with a warm greeting and smile, Velma's calm demeanor made everyone who met her a better person.
Mom was known for her delicious homemade jelly and cookies, as well as being a talented seamstress. She loved to knit and crochet, making many sweaters, dresses and afghans for her family and friends throughout the years.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joyce Sagehorn and brothers Ernest and Jon Volk. She is survived by her loving husband William of 72 years, brother Bob, son Bill (Sandra) Walker of Tacoma, WA, daughter Diana (Kent) Bennett of Vancouver, WA, Five (5) Grandchildren: Paula (Pete) Christensen , Pam Walker, Kevin (Jennifer) Bennett , Terry (Erin) Bennett , Brian (Ami) Bennett and Eleven (11) Great Grandchildren, Nicole, Mitch, Brayton, Tyler, Ella, Mason, Penny, Kendall, Carter, Reina and Ryan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins from Canada to Texas.
