Velma Miller's Obituary
Velma Delia Miller
Velma Delia Miller was born on May 11, 1922 in Wenatchee, WA to Ernest and Nettie Willhoite, and died on April 29th, 2012 in Tacoma, WA, aged 89. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, James W. Miller, and brothers Forrest, Eugene, and Keith Willhoite. She is survived by her sister Shirley Nation of Puyallup, her five daughters, Janice Welch (David), Joann Eikum (Darwin), Judith Neufeld (Richard), Sara Jane Craypo (Monte), and Jill Olson (Brent), and eleven grandchildren, William, Jonathan and Patrick Welch, Bryan and Kevin Eikum, Russell Saunders, Mark Craypo and Amy Tiemeyer, Shanna and Erin Olson and Heidi Smith. She also enjoyed having twenty-one great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Velma grew up in University Place and attended Stadium High School. After raising her family and retiring from the Bon Marche, she and Jim were able to pursue their love of camping, hiking, and traveling. They always preferred a road off the beaten path over any highway. Velma loved the outdoors, from the mountains to the deserts. She found beauty in every state, and she loved reading about the history of our great nation by traveling to many historical sites. Having daughters in other states and Canada meant Velma was able to travel to California, Virginia, and British Columbia in her later years to satisfy her desire to travel. Velma also lived in Ocean Shores for 13 years, where she belonged to the Ladies of the Elks. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, and she enjoyed the challenge of a good game of cards. The Wetzel Family Reunion each year was an important event for her. A celebration of Velma's life will be held Monday, May 7, 2012 at 11:00 at Mountain View Cemetery, Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW.
