Velena Steinmetz's Obituary
Velena Steinmetz, age 92, died on January 7, 2023. She spent her last few
days with her family surrounding her.
Velena was born on July 8th, 1930 in a small town in Alberta, Canada.
She moved to the United States at age 7 and lived in Everett, WA
until her marriage to Vern Steinmetz at age 20. The rest of her life was
spent in the Tacoma area. She was a fabulous homemaker, a devoted
wife, and a loving mother. Her church was her life. She and her husband
established a life of dedication to their beliefs and giving to others.
The last few years of Velena's life, were spent exemplifying her professing
beliefs at the nursing home where she resided. At the end of her life,
multiple staff members stopped to say goodbye, and they all said that
Velena was the picture of love and kindness.
Velena is survived by her four daughters, Elyn Stimson (Jeff), Marie
Davis, Karen Chan (Dan), and Dori Ronald. She is also survived by 7
grandchildren, Kyle Wicks (Jolene), Nicole Wicks, Erica Olson (Moses),
Sheldon Davis, Lindsey Ronald, Tyler Chan, and Collin Chan; as
well as, 3 great-grandchildren, Taylor Wicks, Ally Wicks, and Trace Davis.
Velena is preceded in death by her husband, Vern Steinmetz; her parents,
Wilson and Myrtle Taylor; and her brother, Vernon Taylor.
Velena leaves behind a host of friends and a legacy of unconditional love.
There will be a funeral at Mountain View Funeral Home in Tacoma on
Wednesday January 25 at 2pm. There will be a reception immediately
following the service.
