Vane M. Walter's Obituary
Vane M. Walter Sunrise May 20, 1921 Sunset July 14, 2015 Vane was born to Roy and Grace Walter in East Olympia, Washington. He proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in both Africa and France. Upon returning home after the war, Vane and his brother-in-law Terry Haley purchased H & B Fuel and Topsoil, a company they ran in Tacoma for 40 years. After retirement he began his collection of Nash Metropolitans; he received many awards and trophies for these vintage cars. His red and white 1960 Coupe and his 1961 black and white convertible were at the Nash Nationals held earlier in July. Dahlias were his passion. He raised and sold tubers and flowers at markets around the local area. What began as a hobby soon became a full-time job. His collection of bicycles was one he was very proud of and many envied. Vane was married to Stella Leach nearly 60 years before her passing in 1999. They had two sons, Larry (Phyllis) and Jerry (Constance). After Stella's passing, he married Hazel Berry until her passing in 2005. Preceded in death by both parents, his brother Glen and sisters, Elaine and Claribel. Besides his two sons, Vane is survived by grandchildren Stephen (Katie) Walter, Stephanie (Kent) Walter, Erica (Jon) Kropilak, and Julie (Chris) Keegan, and great-grandchildren Aaron Mariani, Aiden Walter, Michael and Ryan Kropilak, and Cody, Blake, and Lauren Keegan. Vane will always be remembered by his special friend Margie Feller and her son Rocky. Dad was a born-again Christian man, and a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. The family would like to thank Allenmore Hospital, Hospice, and Elnora from Advanced Care for their gentle care and respect they gave our father. Although it is hard to say good bye, we know Dad is now reunited with his loved ones that went before him. Services will be held 11:00 Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Mountain View Memorial Park, Lakewood, Washington.
