Valentine Philip Volk
May 4, 1936 - Nov. 27, 2011
Valentine (Val) was born on May 4th, 1936 in McHenry County, North Dakota. He passed away on Sunday, Nov 27th, 2011 at the age of 75. Val was an avid musician, and his talent and passion for music inspired many who knew him. In the early 1950's, he wrote music and sang with his brothers in the Volk Brothers band, pioneering "rockabilly" style music in the northwest and gaining recognition in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame Legends list. Music was a passion throughout his life and until his last days he was writing songs, playing his guitar, and singing. His creative spirit was not just musical, he had a love and a gift for building, creating, and inventing things. He was a devoted family man who loved and cared for his family. As a young man, Val served in the US Army. He later worked for Boeing, retiring in 1995. Val spent many of those same years farming, raising chickens, horses, and whatever else piqued his interest. He never sat idle, spending his retirement days in his garden or in his shop building and inventing things. He will be deeply missed by his family and everyone that knew him Val was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Vivian Volk, his parents Philip and Agatha Volk, and his brothers Patrick and Laverne Volk. He is survived by his six children, Richard (Kim) Edwards, Tina (Kevin) Welsh, Brenda (Dave) Westmark, Brian Volk, Jason (Amy) Volk, and Christopher (Kim) Volk, 12 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
