V. Willene Anderson's Obituary
Willene Anderson
Born Oct. 3, 1929, in Purcell, OK, to the late William Wiley West and Vivian (Violet) McKee. Willene grew up in Oklahoma City, where she met her future husband. They were married in 1950. He was with the Army, and retired after 24 years of service in the Tacoma, WA area. The couple traveled throughout the country and in Europe during their 51 years of marriage. They had five children. Ron died from cancer in 2000.
Willene spent 32 years in a journalism career, as a writer, or sometimes editor of weekly newspapers. These included the Daily Oklahoman in OK City, the weekly Sellwood-Moreland Bee in Portland, OR, the Suburban Times in Lakewood, WA and the Tacoma News Tribune.
Willene is survived by a daughter, Rona Anderson of Lacey, WA; grandchildren, Megan Stout of Florida, Marcie of Colorado and Dustin and Ronald J. Anderson of Tacoma, 10 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and a nephew, James Earnest of OK City.
Proceeding her in death were her children, Glenda Anderson, Teresa (Terry) Foster, and Ralph and Douglas Anderson, a sister, Barbara Earnest, and a brother, Daniel West.
Life, no matter the length of time in years that may go by in years from that first breath of air at birth until the day our heart ceases to beat is but one sand pebble in the sands of time. Thank you, God, for allowing me to leave a few footprints on Your beautiful earth.
