Twin Lee Powell Jr's Obituary
Command Sergeant Major Twin L. Powell, Jr, 82, passed away suddenly of natural causes on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Twin was born into the farming family of Twin L. Powell and Onella Williams-Powell in Madison, Mississippi. He was the fourth of 16 children.
Twin graduated from high school at Madison Rosenwald in 1960 as a salutatorian. He worked at a brick yard while taking classes at Tougaloo College in Jackson, MS. He left college to join the United States Army on January 6, 1964. The military became part of Twin’s core personality. Through his years in service, Twin reached the highest rank of E-9 and was able to see many parts of the world including Germany, Korea, Honduras and the United States.
After retirement, he started selling cars at Pacific Coast Ford in Federal Way before transferring to Car Pros Kia in Tacoma. When he was not doing something to support his life-long love of cars, he was spending time with his children, talking to his brothers and sisters, just taking time to do another word search.
His father, Twin L. Powell Sr.; his mother, Onella Williams Powell; his sister, Velma L. Powell-Seaton were there to welcome him into heaven.
He leaves many to mourn his passing: Three (3) children: Shon Powell, Tara Powell and Trier Powell. Five (5) brothers: Albert E. Powell (Thelma), Madison, MS; James E. Powell (Cathy), Knoxville, TN; Marvin C. Powell (Bridget), Madison, MS; Ben E. Powell, Ridgeland, MS; Hilton A. Powell (Shirley), Spokane, WA; and nine (9) sisters: Gladys M. Powell, Ridgeland, MS; Bennie B. Powell-Robinson, Frisco, TX; Gloria R. Powell-Jackson (John), Bronx, NY; Minnie H. Powell-Barnes, West Haven, CT; Mary V. Powell-McHarris, Ridgeland, MS; Beverly M. Powell-Taylor, Ridgeland, MS; Ramonia C. Powell-Gill, Yelm, WA; Cassandra F. Powell-Taylor (Henry), Ridgeland, MS; and Katrina M. Powell, Ridgeland, MS., well as (40)nephews and nieces, (41)great-nephews and great-nieces and (8)great-great nephews and great-great nieces. He is loved and will be greatly missed by many.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025; 10am - 4pm at Mountain View Funeral Home & Crematory, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, WA 98499, in the main building. On Monday, March 31, 2025, at 10 AM, a funeral service and repass will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home & Crematory in the Celebration of Life Center. Followed by military honors and committal shelter service at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St, Kent, WA 98042 at 1pm.
