Tuaumu Malone's Obituary
Tuaumu Taielua Utoafili Malone was born on January 28, 1953 to the union of Taielua and Tina Utoafili in the village of Fagatogo in American Samoa. In 1969 (age 16), she relocated to Hawaii with her family where she graduated from Nanakuli High School in 1972. Upon graduation, she was encouraged by her late father to go to the mainland to attend Job Corps. She happily complied, and in 1974, she completed a training program in Astoria, Oregon through the University of Oregon at Tongue Point Job Corps Center. Tuaumu married George Malone in 1974 and to this union five children were born.
Tuaumu worked in the hospitality industry as a business clerk, cook, and head maid for over 25 years. Upon medically retiring at the age of 47, she spent her time vacationing and travelling around the country with her family. Her favorite past times were spending time with her family and friends, cooking scrumptious meals (both island and soul), sharing amazing stories (especially about her climbing the coconut tree), attending memorable events and historic landmarks, and playing (shouting) bingo.
Tuaumu passed peacefully on November 5, 2018 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She is preceded in death by her father: Taielua Utoafili; her mother, Tina Asaeli Taielua Utoafili; three siblings, Tina Mata’utia, Asiasiga Utoafili, and FiaFia Taielua Utoafili; and her son Derry “Darren” Malone.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Estella Myers (Randy Myers), Jennifer Noel, Pelinda Newman (Arthur Newman), and Christopher Malone; her siblings, (Leulua’l Finagalo Mata’utia), Taielua Taielua Utoafili (Faiaoga Suafo’a). Selesitina Utoafili Tauese (Alaiva’a Tauese), Punipo Taielua Utoafili, Lilian Taielua Fiso (Laulu Tasi Fiso), Fuamoli Taielua Taimalelagi (Papali’l Etene Taimalelagi), and Taumaoe Taielua Utoafili; her grandchildren, Darren Malone, Darius Malone, Brian Myers, Tony Hill Jr, Antonio Hill, Malaya Noel, K’la Newman, and Ty’ree Newman; and one great grandson, Darren Malone Jr; and a host of family and friends.
