Tony Young's Obituary
Tony Renei Young was born March 9, 1956 to Thomas Young Jr. and
Nellie Jean Fuller Young in Portland, Oregon. The oldest of four
children, Tony traveled the world with his family and the U.S. Air
Force until the family settled in Tacoma, Washington in 1969. As the
older brother, Tony took on the protector role to his three younger
sisters Joyce, Renita, and Yolanda. Whether it was a school concert,
a parking lot fight, or a car wash, they could count on Tony. Tony
attended McIlvaigh & Baker Middle Schools and Mount Tahoma High
School, where he met many of his friends, with whom he has
maintained 40+ year friendships. Tony loved cars, music, family,
camping, baseball, pool, karaoke, and of course the Seattle
Seahawks!
Tony was raised in the AME church and carried his strong faith with
him throughout his life. Tony loved to reminisce and look at old
pictures. He loved children and took many under his wing. You could
always count on him for a good story, helping hand, a wink, or hug.
He gave the absolute best hugs!
Tony raised two children, daughter Lacy and son Kevin, who were his
pride and joy. He would just beam talking about them. He was
beyond honored when his oldest granddaughter Shelah asked him to
officiate her wedding. She was thrilled to be able to return the favor
when he asked her to officiate his. On March 7, 2020, he and Loreli
Taylor married, after 12 years of love, laughter, and football. Tony
gained sons Michael, James, L J, and daughters Christine and
Tometra, along with 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and many inlaws.
Tony bravely fought health battles for over two years and took his
final snap on October 18, 2020. Tony was preceded in death by his
parents, Thomas & Nellie Young, grandparents, Morie & Audrey Fuller
and Thomas & Elnora Young, along with one of his best friends, Dave
King. They are now reunited. Tony made a lasting impression on
everyone he met. He touched so many and will never be forgotten.
