Tony F. Turkovich, June 27, 1923 – February 20, 2024
Dr. Tony F. Turkovich, 100, of Lakewood passed away on February 20, 2024, with his wife Ilene at his side at Madigan Hospital. Born in Mineral, WA, June 27,1923 to Maria and Anton Turkovich. He moved with his family to Fife, WA, where he graduated from high school. He joined the Navy and served from 1943 to 1946. Afterwards, he served in the National Guard and Army Reserves from 1947 to 1983, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. Tony earned BA and Master degrees from the University of Puget Sound, and a PhD in Education from Montana State University.
Tony worked in a variety of public and DOD schools around the world as an educator and Principal, retiring as a Facililty Consultant for the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Upon retirement Tony volunteered with FEMA as a Community Relations Officer. He was active with his local HOA, and enjoyed reading, gardening, and cooking with his wife, Ilene.
Tony married Pilar Comas (deceased) and had two children, Eduardo C. and Tanya M. He married Ilene Marie White in 1989, whom he lived happily with until his death. Tony is survived by wife, Ilene, son Eduardo (Sara), daughter Tanya (John), stepsons Robert B. White and Timothy E. (deceased), and grandchildren Zoe, Leann and Lisa. Tony was preceded in death by both parents and his sister, Mary Tippets.
No donations or flowers please. Tony will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery with a private family gathering at a later date.
