Thorvald was born in Askov, Minnesota, on September 8, 1918. His parents Peter and Dora had three sons, Hans, Richard and Thorvald. His father was Danish and his mother was Icelandic. As a family, they lived in Minnesota, Oregon, Bellingham and Enumclaw. Thor served in the US Army during World War II with C Company 752nd Tank Battalion. He retired after completing 32 years of Civil Service as a Ground Equipment mechanic with the 62nd Field Maintenance Squadron at McChord, Air Force Base. He also retired from the Clover Park School District. He enjoyed farming, gardening, tinkering in his shop, fishing, going for walks, going RV-ing. He and his first wife Marge(Deceased) were deeply involved in Southeast Tacoma FISH food bank for many years. He married Elva in 1985, caring for her until her death in 2002. Thor is survived by his wife Shirley, son Brian, Daughter Lori (Dennis), four grandsons Chaz(Karissa), Aaron (Kendra), Jared (Steph), Jon (Sarah), great-grandchildren Carson, Chloie, Kaelyn and Leah.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2:00PM at The Lutheran Church Christ the King at 1710 85th St E Tacoma, WA 98445, with a reception to follow at the church.
