Thomas Walker OwenBorn in Everett, WA on June 7, 1925, Tom died on March 4, 2007 from complications of heart surgery, surrounded by his loving family.Tom graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle in 1943, where he was a letterman and senior class president. He then entered the US Army in WWII and fought for 2 years in the Italian campaign, earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Washington and earned a Masters degree from the Pacific Coast Banking School. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta.Tom began his banking career at Seattle Trust & Savings Bank. In 1959 he moved to Tacoma and spent the next 23 years at National Bank of Washington, becoming Vice Chairman of the Board. In 1972 he joined and eventually acquired Owen-Reeder Investments, where he worked until his retirement in 1992.Tom was a member of the Tacoma Golf and Country Club and the Tacoma Club. He served his community through the years as a member of the Boards of the United Way, Annie Wright School, and the YMCA. He was a world traveler and avid skier most of his life.He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ingrid, his sister, Elizabeth Johnson, his children Thomas Jr., Gary, Caroline (Brad), and Jeff and grandchildren Tyler, Courtney, Anna, Walker, Kaitie, Erik, Mari, and step-children Karin Thiersch and Kurt Nelson.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Tacoma Boys and Girls Club. A celebration of TomÂ's life will be held at the Tacoma Golf and Country Club at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 15th.
