Thomas Robert Rowland's Obituary
Thomas Robert Rowland was born in Newark, Ohio on March 25th, 1943. He left this world on Tuesday, September 30th in Tacoma, Washington.
Tom Leaves behind Julie, his high school sweetheart and wife of 11 years. This was a short time, but one filled with much laughter and joy. They were true soul mates.
He leaves behind his and her children; Tanna Moddison (Sherrill), Joe Storholt (Stefanie), and Deanna Darrow. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Kayla, Crystal, Nathan, Garrett, Summer & Autumn and 2 great-grandchildren Tyson and Vincent, his sister Patti and niece Anna. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Emajean.
One of his last great joys was being able to see Patti and Anna when they came to visit in August of this year. Lots of conversation, laughter and love were shared – along with the driver taking the wrong roads!
Tom was a fine concert pianist and studied at Julliard School of Music in New York City. He finished his education and Maryland University with honors in Philosophy.
His struggles with Parkinson’s disease and Prostate Cancer were attacked with determination and dignity. He fought these diseases with all he had for the 11 years of his marriage with Julie. Towards the end of his life, his battle with Parkinson’s was being lost; he fought mightily until the end. He was in the process of writing two books, one a philosophy book on the esthetics of music, the other a murder mystery. Due to constant tremors and voice degradation, he was unable to complete either one of them. The world has lost a great author and thinker.
He was the love of my life and I miss him. –J.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 11th at 1pm in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood, Washington with a graveside service to follow.
