Thomas Names, Jr.'s Obituary
Thomas (Tom) Scott Names Jr. was born on April 14th, 1934 in Tacoma, Washington to Thomas Scott & Evelyn (Sis) Names. Tom passed away peacefully in his home on February 1st, 2015 at the age of 80. Tom is preceded in death by his parents Scott & Sis and brother Clint.
Tom graduated from Stadium High School and the University of Puget Sound where he played basketball. Prior to enrolling at UPS Tom joined the Army where he served honorably. In the early 1960’s Tom along with his parents, brother and Pat Larkin opened Scott’s Athletic Supply in Lakewood which they ran and operated for over 30 years. Tom was a founding board member of the Names Family Foundation that his parents formed. Tom found great pleasure serving on the board and giving back to the community he loved so much. Tom was also an active member of the Lakewood Rotary, and he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow.
Tom loved the game of golf and was a member of Fircrest Golf Club having joined in 1960 playing for the club championship numerous times winning the title in 1973 and runner-up in 1961, 1974 &1975. Tom was president of the Fircrest Golf Club in 1976. Tom also loved the game of basketball playing from an early age with his grandfather, father, brother and uncles. Tom played basketball until his mid 70’s on a Senior Olympics team traveling to Utah and Florida and winning the Senior games once! Tom’s favorite place to be was at the family cabin at Lake Chelan, where he and Meg spent every summer.
