Thomas H Hammett's Obituary
Tom passed away on December 8th. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and braved this
challenge with his characteristic faith, grace, humor, and love to the end. He was born in
Greenville, SC. He grew up in a mill community. He served in the army starting in 1957 and was
stationed at Ft. Lewis. He was married in 1959 at First Baptist Church in Tacoma, WA.
After the military, Tom took a job as a school janitor and also worked at Brown & Haley. He
attended the University of Puget Sound where he received his Master’s Degree in Education.
He proudly taught elementary school in the Tacoma School District for 41 years.
Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Tom lived a remarkably full
life. He was devoted to his faith and family. He was always interested in what every family
member was doing. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home in the Garden Chapel
on Saturday, January 11th at 11:30 AM.
