My deepest condolences to the Dixon family. I met Tom about 30 years ago when he was with the Tacoma Urban League. I continued to have long lunches and conversations often with Tom and mutual friends after Tom retired.
Tom was genuinely gifted, and his most powerful gifts were his kindness, humility, and selflessness. He generously shared these and many other gifts in the service to others. He opened doors for others and lifted individuals and entire communities to heights not achievable without his calm and sage advice and tireless engagement.
Tom core qualities allowed him to navigate the corridors of business, politics and the various Tacoma and Pierce County communities with equal effectiveness and trust. His integrity was unquestioned no matter where he was or who he was dealing with. He won the heart and souls of my peers when he would visit me at Weyerhaeuser Company.
Tom grew up in the deep south and whatever that experience was it is clear that service to others was in his DNA. Quite simply, Tom was an uncommon man that never lost the common touch.
Tom was indeed the leader! He was my friend! I miss him!
