Thomas Alvin Thompson's Obituary
Thomas Alvin (Tom) Thompson Â"Mr. Fix ItÂ"He was known for his dry sense of humor, his avid love of vegetable gardening, dancing to western music and trout fishing, fixing broken items and coffee drinking with friends, you betcha!Thomas was born in Hatton, ND on May 30th 1914. The family all moved to Tacoma in 1930 when the dust bowl of  30Â's make it impossible to maintain their wheat farm.He worked at several labor jobs and mills in Tacoma and was a WWII veteran serving a tour in Germany and Italy. After the war he worked at the Tacoma Smelter, Northwest door and Northwest Chair from 1946 to his retirement in 1977.He married Flora, (Wood) in 1942, his wife for 49 years who preceded him in death in 1993.He is survived by his two daughters, Karen (David) Crosby, Cheryl (Lynn) Larsen from Tacoma; three grandchildren; Cheri (Jim) Dempsey, Tacoma, WA, Brian Smith, Everett, WA, and Travis Estvold, Boise Idaho. Tom also has two great grandchildren, James Christopher (Thor) J.T. and Alexander (Gunnar) Dempsey.Tom is also survived by one sister, Edna Baxter of Kearny, NB, also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.Surviving also, his friend for many years, Walt Rickert of Olympia, WA, McKinley Hill neighbor to the entire Thompson family.Special thanks to cousin Marvin Thompson who did a wonderful job as his UncleÂ's trustee.Another special thanks to all the people and staff at Heritage Rehab Center where Tom received excellent care and attention and made many new friends.Also thanks to Dr. Robert Caldwell and his nurse Dana who provided comfort and strength to Tom and his family through the years.At TomÂ's request no funeral will be held. A memorial service will be held at Heritage Rehab Center at 7411 Pacific Ave, in Tacoma, WA on Friday November 15th at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome.
