Theodore Walter TeylerWe remember and celebrate the life and faith of a redeemed child of God among us. Ted was born on December 10, 1918, in Willow Springs, Illinois, and died on August 29, 2004, in Tacoma, Washington. On June 17, 1944, he married Margaret Elizabeth Matthes of Detroit, Michigan. He was preceded in death by son Thomas (1960) and by his beloved wife Margaret (1999). He is survived by Gary (Judy) of Stockton, CA; Paul (Elin) of Coos Bay, OR; Kathleen (Ben) Jarrett of Portland, OR; Carol (Brian) Laird of Tacoma, WA; foster son Keith Howard of Lakeside, CA; grandchildren Timothy and Katherine Howard; Kerri, Rachael, and Matthew Teyler; Karin and Christopher Teyler; and Darcie and Courtney Sage of Tacoma, WA.Parishes served by Pastor Teyler (and two of them, the one in Peoria and the other in Puyallup, were founded by him) were the following: Zion Lutheran Church, Danvers, IL, 1944 to 1949; Redeemer Lutheran Church, Peoria, IL, 1949 to 1959; Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Collinsville, IL, 1959 to 1961; Trinity Lutheran Church, Portland, OR, 1961 to 1972; Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Puyallup, WA, 1972 to 1979; and Central Lutheran Church, Morton, WA, 1979 to 1984. Ted also served as interim pastor after his retirement at three churches. Throughout his 60 years of ministry, Pastor Teyler had a passion for gospel preaching in which he lifted high the cross as the sinnersÂ' only savior and the worldÂ's only hope.Ted was a blithe spirit who maintained a positive attitude and made it a habit to look at the bright side of life, always by the grace of God and in the strength of His Spirit. Ted was an avid gardener, photographer, woodworker, and writer. He delighted in sharing his God given gifts with others.A memorial service for Ted will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 6, 2004, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 12115 S. Park Ave, Tacoma. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
