I am one of the Caregivers of Ted Apa in the past year. I started working for him since April 2011, I took him almost everyday for doctor appointment during his cancer treatment at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma. At one point when I accompanied him and Gerrie to hospital, a mid age lady was at the same elevator with us saying "Oh my God Dr. Apa this is so and so, we worked together 30 years ago !", Ted nodded and smile. At several occasions a Receptionist in Hospital came out from her counter just to shake Ted's hand and chatted with him, make some patients in line behind us kinda jealous. Ted is one of the person with great humility, wise and down to earth. He never talk about his great accomplishments even his purple heart during combat mission in Italy until few weeks before his passing when I found out that he is one of it's recipient, I said " Ted you should be proud of yourself! not many soldier got this", he only smiles.Ted Apa passed away in the early morning of Good Friday April 6, I never forget 2 books he dedicated to me few days before his passing "The years of LBJ:Master of the Senate" and "The privileged life and radical presidency of FDR" with his autograph in it realizing that politics is one of my interests.Quietly and peacefully, Ted's life ended at his home as he wished, survived by his loving wife, Gerrie, his wonderful daughter Mary Ann and great son James. We surely miss you Ted; may you rest in peace!##imported-begin##Ben J.
