Thelma Cumby's Obituary
Thelma Lorine Cumby Age 88, of Tacoma, WA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Thelma was born June 4, 1924, in Tacoma, WA, to Reuben and Matilda (Koch) Thiel. Growing up, she and her identical twin sister, Elma, spent much time swim-ming and roller skating. The twins graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma in 1942. Thelma was married to William Cumby for almost 40 years, and they raised two daughters. Over the years, Thelma taught Bible classes, was involved in various political organizations, and did numerous volunteer jobs. She also worked for the Tacoma School District until her retirement in 1991. Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, William E. Cumby, her parents Rueben and Matilda, and her siblings: Lucille, Paul, Clifford, Virginia, and her twin sister, Elma. Surviving family include her children, Wanda Brunstetter (and Richard Sr.) of Yakima, WA; Joy Stenson (and Rick) of Ballard, WA; grand-children: Richard Brunstetter Jr. and Lorine VanCorbach; and great-grandchildren: Richard Brunstetter III, Philip Brunstetter, Richelle Brunstetter, Jinell Van Corbach, Madolynne Van Corbach, and Rebekah Van Corbach. Thelma's sister, Doris Janz, also survives her. Memorial gifts in Thelma's name may be sent to Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800. A family grave-side service will be held later this week for immediate family members.
