Theda Lisbon Morris' Obituary
On the 5th of May in Norfolk, Virginia, Theda L. Morris was born to lnez Virginia Brooks and George Washington Powell. She was the third of four daughters raised in a Christian home headed by a single father who was a cook in the U.S. Navy.Theda graduated from GirlsÂ' High School in Brooklyn, New York in 1935. Theda then pursued her passion for art by studying at NYU. In 1946 she married Edwin W. Morris. In 1958 they moved to Tacoma, WA where they raised two children while Theda worked for Tacoma Public Schools.Theda was an active member of the Asberry Cultural Club for more than 30 years and Bethlehem Baptist Church for more than 45 years.Theda will be missed by her children, Edwin, Jr. (Gloria), Sharon (Leon Hooker) and two grandchildren, Edwin M. and Michelle. She is also survived by one sister, Lois Doggett and many other relatives and friends.Viewing at Mountain View Funeral Home, Monday Dec. 8 from noon until 9 pm. Funeral Service will be at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 4818 Portland Ave. Tacoma, WA at 11:00 am, Tues. Dec 9, 2003.
