Sylvia Joy Larson's Obituary
Sylvia Larson met her Heavenly Home Tuesday August 29, 2023 at the age of 88. She was born June 14, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah to a Swedish immigrant father, Nils Lund and mother, Ebba Lund. She was the 2nd of their five children. Their home for her first 8 years was in Bountiful, a suburb of Salt Lake. In March of 1943 with now four children, Dad moved her family to Tacoma, Washington where he purchased property with Green Houses and a shop. Thus began the Lund Floral Company. Sylvia loved watching the work of planting flowers and seeing them grow. Later in her Adult life she would work on the Holidays and eventually was a regular employee. Summer vacations for Sylvia as a teen were spent traveling by car to Salt Lake City for family reunions of the Lund clan. Then came the Black Lake Bible Camp near Olympia and Church Vacation Bible School.
Music was an important part of her family. Many nights we would gather and sing or play different instruments. Sylvia chose the violin. These were fun times since the family had no TV yet. She performed in the Lincoln High School and Whitworth College Orchestras as well as University of Puget Sound/Tacoma Symphony which later became Tacoma Symphony. She was also a member of Sacred Music Chorale.
As a graduate of Pacific Lutheran College with a Bachelor in Education, Sylvia began a teaching career at Fawcett Elementary School in Tacoma WA., Miss Lund was teaching 3rd grade.
In 1959 Sylvia married Louis Gerald Larson at Central Baptist Church were they continued to worship, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. They were blessed with two sons, Dean and Raymond. Due to various jobs changes the family moved to Auburn WA, Concord California, and back to Tacoma where the boys spent there last years of schooling.
Sylvia was a God centered Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandma and Teacher. Best known was the fact that she was a diligent pray warrior who studied the Bible and lived God's Love.
