Susan E. McKinney's Obituary
Susan E McKinney, formerly a resident of Lacey, Washington for more than 50 years, died at Conroe Medical Center, Conroe, Texas on August 14, 2015. She was 92.
Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Charles and Lydia Edgcumbe, Susan graduated from high school in 1941. She became a registered nurse and joined the Army Nurse Corps. Susan was assigned to Ft Bliss, Texas where she met her future husband, Capt. William McKinney, Jr. (deceased). They were married in 1946. They lived all over the United States and in Stuttgart, Germany. Upon completion of her husband’s military service, she became a resident of Lacey, Washington, in her husband’s home state in 1958.
Susan is survived by daughter, Linda Godfrey (Daniel), son Richard (Catherine Barry), son Charles, grandsons Grant Godfrey (Mary Sue Twohy) and Craig Godfrey (Dustianne North). She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Charles and sister Marie.
Devoted to public service, Susan worked for the State of Washington Department of Social and Health Services. In retirement, she volunteered at St. Peter’s Hospital and the State Capitol in Olympia. Notably, she was a founding member of St. Benedict Episcopal Church in Lacey and remained active in the choir and numerous committees.
In 2009 she moved from her beloved Washington state to Texas to reside with her daughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family desires donations be given in her name to St. Benedict Episcopal, PO Box 3811, Olympia, WA 98503.
A memorial service will held at 10 AM on Saturday, October 17 at St Benedict Episcopal Church, 910 Bowker St, Lacey, Washington. Susan will be interred in a private ceremony at Mt. View Memorial Park, Lakewood, WA.
