Sun Mia Kim's Obituary
In Loving Memory
Sun Mia Kim, age 75, earned her angel wings peacefully on August 27th, 2020 while surrounded by her loved ones and those whom her life had positively impacted. She was born on March 25th, 1945 in Jinhae-gu, South Korea to Myung Son and Chom Pong. Sun Kim was a true shepherd of people. All who came to know her would testify that no matter who you are, or where you come from, she wanted you to be the best version of yourself. She challenged those around her to be better and not only did she explain what needed to be done, she exemplified it. She was the absolute epitome of grace and excellence in all she did. Bold. Daring. Ambitious. Driven. These are all words that accurately illustrate how Ms. Kim lived her life. From leaving her native Korea for a chance at a better life for her and her family, to teaching herself English, to earning her U.S. citizenship in 1973, to becoming a real estate agent and entrepreneur, to teaching herself day trading, she was a life-long learner who never succumbed to complacency. She never ran from the moment. She understood that success is not given, it’s earned. All that she earned was done for the benefit of her children and grandchildren. Ms. Kim was one of nine children including, Tong K., Dong Joo, Nam Joo, Kae Jae, Tong S., Sun Kuh, Sung Chils, and Tong C. Her legacy includes her three children, James, Cynthia, and Thomas; her grandchildren Cynthia, Vanessa, Kelvin, Leticia, David, Marcella, and Alex; her great grandchildren Jose, Edward, Elijah, Xyra, Xavier, Anabel, Emma, Troy, and Franky in conjunction with the many adopted sons and daughters that she has accumulated over the years. As an elder and proud member of Tacoma New Life Presbyterian Church, Ms. Kim was extremely dedicated to her faith. She was highly involved and spent a large majority of her time with her church family. From volunteering to assisting with treasury activities, she loved her church deeply and was a highly respected member of the community.
