Sue B. Dahl's Obituary
Sue Beatrice Dahl, 84, of Tacoma, Washington passed away November 25th, 2013. Sue was born “Beatrice Laura Eales” on February 3rd, 1929 in London, England the daughter of Herbert Thomas Eales and Mary Ann Hardy. During World War II, at 14 years old, she met a dashing young pilot named Robert Harold Dahl. Somewhat shy about her birth name, she introduced herself as “Sue”. The two fell in love and when Robert returned to the states, he sent for her to come to the US. Robert and Sue were wed February 1st, 1946 at Frist Presbyterian Church in Tacoma, WA and remained married for 46 years. Robert preceded her in passing January 6th, 1991.
Early on, Sue worked as a hostess at the prestigious Top of the Ocean restaurant, however, Sue’s true passion was devoting her life to homemaking. Love of family was a quintessential aspect of her character. During the holidays, she was the flawless host whose meals were unmatched. A gracious and humble matriarch, her persona will influence generations to come.
Sue is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda Dahl Starck and Richard Starck of Sequim, WA, son David Dahl of Wenatchee, WA and son and daughter-in-law Robert Dahl, Jr. and Andrea Dahl of Lakewood, WA.
Sue has several grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored: Steven Dahl and children Delaney and Jackson of Tacoma, WA, Christopher Steinbock (preceded in passing) of San Francisco, CA, Michael and Sara Dahl and children Christian and Carter of Kirkland, WA, Erik Dahl of Wenatchee WA, Jennifer and Nicholas Beeson and child Madilyn of Renton, WA, and Bryan Dahl of Bonney Lake, WA.
Sue has numerous nieces, nephews, and other surviving relatives and friends who love her and have been greatly influenced by this amazing woman.
Sue lived life to the fullest. She never missed dropping a birthday card in the mail. She religiously watched (and rooted for) the Mariners. She loved dancing and soft music and often had Michael Buble or Josh Groban playing on her stereo. She had secret crushes on Rod Stewart and Jack Nicholson. She collected Cabbage Patch Dolls and English porcelain figurines. Sue loved to sew and often blessed her grandchildren with pajamas, coats, and other charming apparel.
We are forever grateful for the invaluable blessing she has been to our family. A brief burial service for family and friends will be held this coming Friday, November 29th, 2013 at Mountain View Cemetery at 1:30pm.
