Stuart W. Kelly's Obituary
Stuart Wilson Kelly, born July 4, 1925 in Vancouver, BC, passed away on April 13, 2010 in Tacoma, surrounded by his family.
Stuart moved to Rosedale, Washington with his family in 1933 from Canada and graduated from Gig Harbor High School. During World War II, he served as a proud Old Reliable in the 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, campaigning from Saint Lo to Central Germany.
After the war, he worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a machinist and Non-destructive testing supervisor for 38 years, retiring in 1980.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Marjorie Kelly, his son Michael Kelly and wife Roberta of Federal Way and daughter, Teresa Kelly and husband Jim Anderson of Salem, Oregon. He was also blessed with six grandchildren, Patricia Dowell and James Mellen of Salem; Barbara Kerrane of Fort Hood, Texas; Charlotte Lewis of Federal Way; Gabrielle Lunasco of Okinawa; and Jared Anderson of Eugene, Oregon; and two great-grand children, Kaitlyn Mellen of Salem; and Zoe Lunasco of Okinawa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Isabelle Kelly, father, John Kelly, and brother, Robert Kelly.
Stuart enjoyed hiking and camping, traveling with Marjorie around the country in their motor home, woodworking, gardening, and a dry Manhattan or two at 4 PM. Above all, he enjoyed being with his family and friends.
A funeral service will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 24, at the Mountain View Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Franciscan Hospice of Tacoma, 2901 Bridgeport Way West, 253-534-7000, would be greatly appreciated.
