Steven Sorensen's Obituary
Steven L. Sorensen, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on August 10, 2024, at the age of 83 years young. Steve was born in Yuba City, California to Willard and Ada Sorensen, and had two siblings – James and Sharolynn who predeceased him. He was married to Penney Sorensen for 61 years and they had two children. They have resided in Washington State since 1969. Steve and Penney enjoyed going to dances, boating on American Lake, hosting Bunco parties, dining out and going to movies. They always made holidays special! Their family consisted of 2 children, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 2 goddaughters. Namely, daughter Stephani Sorensen [grandchildren Tyler (wife Sheridan, great grandson Ryder), Austin (wife Taylor) and Aubrey], son Kris Sorensen [wife Marisol, and grandchildren Celeste (Grayson, and great grandchildren Josiah and Elle), Devon (wife Ali and great grandson Ezran), Alec, Jessica, Michael and Gabriel]. Amanda O’Keeffe and Jenna Joseph are their goddaughters (their mom and friend is Julie O’Keeffe). After graduating high school, Steve decided to join the United States Air Force and served 8 years. He flew rescue missions with Detachment 5, 38 Aerospace Rescue & Recovery Squadron. He deployed to Vietnam and spent time stationed in Thailand, the Philippines and South Korea. After fulfilling his duty, he bought a television repair business, Lake City T.V. His dedication to customer service and building community relationships spanned over 40 years. The “tv shop” was close to home and he would go home every day for lunch with his wife. He loved electronics and could fix virtually anything that came his way. Not surprisingly, he built his first radio as a child with a crystal set - which is nothing more than some wood, a coil of wire, a capacitor and a crystal detector. His favorite subject in school was Science. He carried this passion for the rest of his life and loved the challenge of fixing electronics, such as antique radios and televisions. Steve’s favorite hobbies were building and flying RC airplanes, playing the guitar (and banjo), boating, fishing, woodworking, astronomy, science fiction books and movies, going for walks with his dog(s), and Ham Radio where he would use morse code to talk to people all over the world – before the internet this was exciting! All of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and godchildren were a part of and experienced his fun hobbies with him, whether it was learning to play the guitar, a sing-a-long while he played the guitar, building a rocket or birdhouse out in his shop, going to air shows, helping him load up RC airplanes to go fly them in a field, or playing with some gadget he had built or bought at a garage sale. He loved his family and lived an authentic and honest life. He was simply the BEST and we will miss him every single day.
