Steven Farmer's Obituary
Steven Eugene Farmer, 50, of Spanaway, Washington, passed peacefully from this life on the evening of October 21, 2014 at Tacoma General Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
Steve was born November 24, 1963 in Wichita, Kansas. He worked in the fishing industry and enjoyed his time in Alaska and the Bering Sea. Raised Pentecostal as a child he continued his spirituality as an adult with great knowledge and understanding of the Bible, and always wore a cross.
Thoughtful and giving, Steve was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, like helping out the neighbors and tending to family gravesites of friends who live out of town. Though he was very opinionated and stuck to his guns, he went out of his way for those he cared for and was always very protective of his loved ones. Steve felt an especially tight bond with his younger brother Mike and above all would do anything for his life partner, Burna. He enjoyed being regarded as an uncle to friends’ children he watched grow up. He had fond childhood memories of his grandparents as well as keeping far away family and friends close to his heart. It meant a lot to him to reconnect with them last year, especially his older sister Shelly, even though it was the sad occasion of his Dad’s passing.
Pretty much a Jack-of-all-trades, Steve had a creative talent, with a knack for fixing anything. He was always active and kept himself busy with different projects such as building a covered patio at his home, his own dog houses, and outside pet enclosures for the cats. Steve enjoyed landscaping and took great pride in tending to his Mom’s rosebushes he transplanted from her flower garden. He also enjoyed weed eating—his and everyone else’s yard—and keeping his well watered.
Steve loved the water whether it was fishing, swimming, watering or just being out in the rain. He loved being outdoors no matter what time of year and was always looking for outdoor activities with his friends. Steve enjoyed the RC car hobby with them and was known as Tumbleweed to the CB community where he acquired many close friends. Always a night owl he enjoyed stargazing and particularly liked thunder and lightening storms because they reminded him of back home in Kansas.
Steve will be missed by his loving life partner of 25 years Burna Franks of Spanaway, brother Michael Dimmitt (Lydia), nephew Morgan, niece Bailey, all of Tacoma; sister Shelly (James) Richter and six nieces and nephews, all of Keller, TX; stepmother Darla Farmer of Wichita, KS; stepfather Bert Feskens of Renton, WA; uncle Dale of Fort Lauderdale, FL; several other aunts and uncles and a host of close friends. Steve was reunited in Heaven with his parents Gerald Eugene Farmer and Sharon Louise (Beard) Feskens, and nephews Quinnton Michael Dimmitt and James David Warner.
The family is very grateful for the thoughtful care provided by the medical staff of the ICU at Tacoma General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lighthouse Christian Center. A memorial service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Lighthouse Christian Center, 3409 23rd St SW, Puyallup, WA 98373.
