To the family of Steve and Mary: I am a retired Navy CAPT who served with Dick Tanaka in Korea in the 80s. I worked in manufacturing in Kent WA in 2012-2014 and Dick recommended that I look up Steve to see if he was still on the "straight and narrow". I have so many good memories, of coffee and discussions with Dick and Mary, about life in Korea, and back in the state, early years with the kids. I remember clearly how proud he was of his kids and grand kids. I met Russell at one point, and grandsons. Several times, after Mary passed on, we went to her grave site and left flowers and he told me stories about their early years, then went to their favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. I remember a couple of times, we went crabbing with Mary's friend SunCha (sp), I tried to kept in tough with Steve after I left. I remember he talked about traveling back for a family reunion in Idaho. He described the downstair apartment Russel was arranging for him, and didn't want to sell his beloved pickup. In 2016, I left work in Milwaukee, to go back to the family in Western Nebraska, after the passing of my father and brother. So I was out of touch for a while. When I couldn't reach him now, I found his obit, and so I did want to pass along my thoughts of your wonderful father. While I only knew him for a few years, I found him to be such a good man, a sterling citizen, one of the people who makes our country so great. May he rest in peace and and you have my best wishes and prayers to his family. Pete Lenzen
