Stephen Roy Griffin 71, of Tacoma, Washington went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 30th, 2014. He was born March 7th, 1943 to Norman and Josephine Griffin in Petersburg, Virginia. Stephen was the third of seven brothers. After graduating from Petersburg High School in 1961, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at McChord AFB. Stephen married Marian Martin November 11, 1964. After serving in the Air Force, Stephen worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA, retiring as a Planner and Estimator in 1993. Stephen joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Tacoma where he served faithfully as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Some community services included the Hilltop JC'S, Counselor for the Court Appointed Special Advocate Program (CASA), and conducting Bible Study for the Seniors at the E.B. Wilson Complex. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers, Norman Jr. and Michael. Stephen is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marian, daughter Stephanie Stevens, son Gerald (Jerry) Griffin, grandsons Jarae Griffin (Veasna) and Jibreel Stevens, great-grandchildren Lakai and Latavia Griffin, all of Tacoma. He is also survived by his brothers, Gilbert Griffin (Jean) of Petersburg, Virginia, Frank Griffin ( Jean) of Hillside NJ, Joseph Griffin of Richmond, Virginia and Barry Griffin (Ingrid ) of Richmond, Virginia, Godchildren, Kobie Smith, Kristina Solitaire and a host of family and friends. Home going service will be Saturday, August 9th at 11:00 am at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 4818 E. Portland Ave in Tacoma. Viewing will be at Mountain View Funeral Home on Friday Aug 8th, from 1-8 pm.
