Stephen Arthur Farr's Obituary
Stephen A. Farr LTC USA Ret.
Steve, beloved husband of Alene for over sixty years, passed away peacefully at his home on April 21, 2009 at the age of 86. Born in San Diego, CA on March 23, 1923, he enlisted in the Army during WWII, and shortly thereafter received his commission through Officers Candidate School. He saw service in China and oversaw the surrender of Japanese troops to the Chinese in Manchuria at war's end. He met the love of his life, Pat, who was serving as an Army nurse in 1943, and after Steve's overseas assignments, they married. Steve also served in the Korean War. His twenty years' service in the Army took him and Pat to Europe and throughout the USA. Upon his retirement they settled in Lakewood, and Steve attended PLU, where he obtained a master's degree. For the next 25 years he worked for the Tacoma School District as a child psychologist and as a part-time consultant for over 3 years after that. Those who knew Steve will remember him as a compassionate, caring individual who loved to help others. In addition to his wife Pat, he is survived by his daughter Renee Ahlbrect of Lakewood, and a sister, Marion Raisch, of Sandy, UT. Sharing in Pat's grief are dear friends John and Cristel Scouller of Tacoma and Bill Dick of Lakewood. At Steve's request, there will be no services. Memorial gifts in Steve's name can be sent to the Tacoma Rescue Mission, 425 S. Tacoma Way, POEBox 1912, Tacoma, WA 98401-1912.
