Stanley H. Marshall's Obituary
Stanley Harold Marshall born November 12, 1913 passed away peacefully on August 14, 2013 just 3 months short of his 100th birthday. Born in New Westminster, Canada, he lived most of his life in the Tacoma area, the last 58 years in University Place. Survived by Lillian, his loving wife of 66 years; son, Gary (Linda); grandchildren, Jamie Valenzuela (Hector) and Trent; and great granddaughter, Sophie Valenzuela.
After graduating from College of Puget Sound (UPS) Stan worked at Atlas Foundry as a chemist, metallurgist, and “problem solving” engineer, retiring in 1982. A man of many talents and hobbies, he designed and built the family home in University Place and a beach cabin near Shelton where many wonderful family vacations and weekends were shared. Stan enjoyed fishing, having won many local salmon derbies, golf, coaching youth sports, water skiing (into his 70’s), bowling (into his late 90’s), metal and woodworking and fixing anything. One of his favorite projects was a Victorian dollhouse he built for his granddaughter. Built to an exact 1/12 scale, every piece was handmade; inlaid hardwood floors, brass doorknobs and hinges, hand split roof and fish scale shakes, lathe turned porch spindles and columns and opening sash windows. Over 3600 pieces and 1300 loving hours were spent to complete. It is still a family treasure.
Stan was a very early and active member of Mount Cross Lutheran Church in University Place. His intelligence, humor and calm presence was much admired and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him. He always felt there were no problems, only solutions.
