Colonel Stanley C. Allison, MD was my mentor and friend beginning in 1978-1980 when he was assigned as an ophthalmologist (LTC/COL) at Madigan Army Medical Center (at Fort Lewis) in Tacoma, WA. We served again in 1980-1981 when he was Commander (COL) of the 121st Evacuation Hospital in Seoul, Korea. And again in 1982-1984 when he was Chief of Eye Services (COL) at Madigan Army Medical Center. He was best man in my/our wedding in 1982. My wife (who also served with him in both Korea and at Madigan) and we were so fortunate to have shared many unforgettable times with him. We last saw him in 2005 just before my second deployment to Afghanistan. We are saddened, but blessed, to of have walked through life with one of the all-time giants of military leadership, keen intellect and humor, deep love of country and the US Army, and total devotion to God, family, and friends. He will be missed by all who have been fortunate to have crossed his path and journey in life.

Stan and I began our life long friendship in 1967 when we served together in the US Army 3rd Special Forces Group(Airborne). 1968-69 found us together again in the Viet Naam with the 5th Special Forces Group(Airborne). 1978 found our paths crossing again in South Korea. Our team mates dubbed us Stan Maximus and Stan Minimus.. Professionally and personally we shared so many experiences, and from all of that was forged a bond of friendship that only those who have experienced war and combat can truly understand. I talked to Stan less than a month ago and reflecting back now , I realize now he had called me to say goodbye. I shall always cherish the conversation we had.
May you Rest in Peace
