Sook Yon Stone's Obituary
Sook Yon Stone was born to Mr. and Mrs. Choi Son Gon on October 23, 1955, in the village of Ipali, Kyonggi-do, South Korea. Her mother passed away when she was five years old, and her father and grandmother raised her.
They later relocated to Seoul, Korea, where, in December 1972, Sook met Tim Stone. On July 26, 1974, the couple was married in a white clapboard chapel on Fort Ritchie, Maryland. While traveling the world together, they welcomed two children of their own. After Tim’s retirement from the U.S. Army, the family settled in Phoenix, Arizona, where they lived for the next 24 years—enduring the scorching summer heat and the occasional winter snowstorm.
When real retirement arrived, Sook and her family returned to the Pacific Northwest. Having previously resided on Fort Lewis during a tour of duty, they decided that the Lakewood area was the ideal place to spend their remaining time together.
After a difficult battle, Sook succumbed to the unrelenting assault of pancreatic cancer on November 28, 2025. She is survived by her husband, Tim; her son, Teddy Stone; and her daughter, Tammy Stone.
