Silverio Cabellon's Obituary
Silverio "Bill" Cabellon
A beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Feb. 17, 2010 at the age of 93. He was born July 8, 1916 in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines to Gregorio and Francisca Cabellon. At age 22, he joined the Philippine Scouts and then transitioned to the U.S. Army serving with honors for 28 years. He was a survivor of the World War II Bataan Death March. After his retirement from the military, he became a military personnel specialist at Fort Lewis. On Dec. 29, 1943, he married Alicia Buenafe, a beautiful teacher, his wife of 66 years. Their children, Silverio Jr., Jessie, George, and Elizabeth, were raised by his strong discipline and his vision that they receive a good education. His 14 grandchildren are proud of him because he made sure to travel and visit them. His generosity was appreciated by his 4 sisters, Leonarda (deceased), Emilia (deceased), Magdalena, and Victoria, and his brother Maximino. Bill enjoyed getting together with friends and relatives over simple pleasures such as giving each other haircuts, exchanging stories at many social gatherings, walking at the old Villa Plaza, and roasting pig the "lechon" way. Viewing is at Mountain View Funeral Home on Feb. 20-21. Memorial mass service will be held at St. John Bosco (Lakewood) on Feb. 22 at 11:00 am. Rosary will be held at 10:00 am prior to the funeral service. The family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity in his name.
