I can still remember that pleasant sunny morning a little voice inside my head, for some reason, told me to take the longer route around Madigan to get to work rather than the way I usually took, at that time, through New Hillside housing. I saw ahead of me, walking on the shoulder of the road a short distance from Madigan, a lady who had a familiar hairstyle. Slowing down as I came up next to her, I was surprised to see that the walker was Signe Lamont. I stopped and she got in and buckled up like that was an everyday thing to do. She mentioned something about some medical tests for her husband and little else until we arrived on campus and parked. Getting out, she turned to me and said that she was sure that her "guardian angel" would come along and rescue her that morning.
Signe, I was proud and honored to had been your guardian angel that morning. Just as you had been, through your many decades of service to hundreds of students, parents, many novice teachers, countless military veterans, and admiring fellow teachers. Well done, good and faithful servant.
