Siegfried Friedman
Siegfried Friedman, a lifelong resident of Tacoma, died July 21, 2011. He was 100. He graduated from Stadium High School in 1927, and attended the University of Washington, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu. Mr. Friedman honorably served as a Lieutenant in the Army during World War II. Together with his brother, Saul, he operated Friedman's Clothes Shop at 1124 Pacific Avenue, founded by their father, a pioneer Tacoma merchant, in 1892. Urban renewal forced the store to close in 1967. He was a member of Temple Beth El and Tacoma Elks #174. He enjoyed countless rounds at Allenmore, where he maintained a low handicap and scored eight holes-in-one. He also enjoyed tennis (he was Tacoma Boy's Tennis Champion in 1924 and 1925), and fishing from his Chris-Craft, "The Goose." He had a strong sense of family. He was predeceased by his brothers Abedeaux and Saul, and his sister Rebecca Miller. He is survived by nephews and nieces Harold Friedman, Jay Friedman, Adele Goldman, Marilyn Silver, Carole Collier, and Janet Gallwas, and numerous grandnephews and nieces. At his request, no services were held. Inurnment at the Home of Peace Cemetery. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
