Shigeko "Sue" Vanderslice's Obituary
Shigeko “Sue” Vanderslice
Sue Vanderslice age 88, a longtime Lakewood, Washington resident, passed away Friday August 14, 2015 at Madigan Army Medical Center. Born in Tokyo, Japan, she grew up with her mother Matsu (Susuki) Kimura and her father Enzo Kimura and was the eighth of ten children. After graduation from high school, she met and fell in love with Mr. Raymond O. Vanderslice whom was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army for 30 years which meant they had to relocate to the USA. They were married August 8, 1963 at the American Embassy in Tokyo. They purchased their home in Lakewood in 1950 next to Ruby and James Lawrence and became best friends over the years and were just like family. Sue and Raymond didn’t have any children of their own but Ruby’s grandson James Fry came to visit and help the Lawrence’s with yard work and began helping Sue and Raymond as well. Then James started a family with his wife Robin and have two daughters Nichole the oldest and Sarah the younger which Sue adored their company. They would spend every summer of their childhood helping her with anything she needed. Years went by and Nichole and Sarah had children of their own where Sue couldn’t have been more excited as she LOVED BABIES AND PUPPIES.
Nichole had Kristian, Jeremiah (Sue called George), Nicholas, Malakiah and Alexis. Sarah had Jordan and Jeffrey. Sue went to the hospital every time and she lit up like a Christmas tree just to hold that baby in her arms. Sue was a loving child, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had the biggest heart and loved everyone and everything including country and Christian music. Sue was a member of South Lakeshore Christian Church and was baptized July 22, 2008 by her good friend Pastor Lonnie Anderson. She was loved by anyone that knew her and was very outgoing, adventurous and loved the outdoors and spending time with her great-great grandchild as well as going to church every Sunday. She will be missed and remembered by all.
