Shawn W. Young's Obituary
Shawn Young, aged 49, was born in Seattle, Washington to Edward Leckenby and Marsha Young on September 30,1974. He passed away on February 25, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. in Renton, Washington at Valley Medical Center Hospital.
He grew up in Kent, Washington along with other various locations in Washington with his mom and stepfather Jimmy Young as well as his two brothers Neil and Brian Taylor.
Shawn graduated high school from Kent Meridian High School. After High School he completed some culinary arts classes at Johnson Wales University in Rhode Island. He also took several classes at Highline College later on in his years.
He worked in various jobs as a cook and a caregiver throughout the years.
Some of Shawn's passions were listening to and discussing music. He also loved watching and discussing movies and TV as well as trivia about them. Some of his favorite movies were comic book ones, especially from Marvel. A lot of his past time was spent playing various games and video games, especially on his phone and with friends. When he was young, he learned to read from and grew very fond of comic books because of this, especially Star Wars, Wolverine, and X-Men. He had a great passion for Halloween and everything associated with it, especially passing out candy, seeing all the kids in their various costumes, and decorating the house for it. He even called Halloween his second birthday, he loved it that much. He also thoroughly enjoyed decorating for the Christmas season, checking out decorated houses around town, seeing the joy of kids, and spending time with family and friends during it. He always enjoyed the many nights of family board games that took place and time with family and friends. Shawn also loved his coffee especially with hazelnut creamer, but he liked many other flavors as well. He loved to talk about and watch wrestling and the Seahawks all of the time. He could be found many weekends and weekdays during football season watching the Seahawks. He also loved to collect shot glasses and could be found asking his family and friends when they were going on trips. He would follow that up with telling them, “Hey, have fun, just bring me back a shot glass.”
Shawn was preceded in death by his mother Marsha Young , stepfather Jimmy Young, father Edward Leckenby, Grandma Lydia Wilcox, and his brother Brian Taylor.
He leaves behind his loving wife Katie Saisslin. He also leaves behind his brother Neil Taylor and family, nephew Clayton Taylor and family, nephew Robert Taylor and family, nieces Mary Beth Taylor, Laura Taylor, Keri Wittenauer and family, as well as many other family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor on April 20th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the White Center Eagles Club. Friends and family that are attending are encouraged to bring a dish, side dish, or dessert to share. There will be light food and drinks provided. Pub style food and drinks are available for purchase. We are encouraging all to dress in yellow and or black.
Shawn will be remembered fondly by his friends and family for his whit, charisma, and charm. He’ll also be remembered for all the wise cracking that he did. He was never without some joke or funny thing to say or a bit of advice. He will be greatly missed by all. In the words of one of his favorite wrestlers The Undertaker, “Rest in peace.”
