Sharon Arlene Wolvin's Obituary
Sharon was born at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, WA to Ward William and Betty Jean Allen on August 28, 1942. Sharon was the eldest of 4 girls. She lived in Tacoma till she was 6 years old when the family moved to Milton, WA to a family farm. Her next move was to Fairbanks AK when she was 13, for her Dad’s work, and after 3 years the family moved back to Tacoma, WA, where she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High school in 1960. At 17 she moved to the nurses’ residence at Tacoma School of Nursing and 3 yrs later took the Nursing Board Exam and earned her RN License. She worked as an RN for one year to earn money so she could go to the University of Washington where she earned her Bachelors and Masters in Nursing. After graduating she went back to Fairbanks, AK and was an Itinerant Public Health Nurse for the Northern region of Alaska. She met and married, Paul Haggland, who was the pilot who flew her into the native villages where she stayed and treated the native people. She gave birth to their son, David Paul Haggland in 1970. After her divorced she and David lived inTacoma where she started working for the Pierce County Health Department. She was a section manager in the Community Health division till she retired in 2000. She married Gail Ray Wolvin March 2, 1991. They lived in Tacoma and had 32 good years together till she passed.
Sharon enjoyed people and many times struck up conversations with anyone she meet. She was also very artistic and loved making cards, Zen tangling, and Iris folding. Her last hobby was Yoga and Tia Chi where she spent many hours volunteering and teaching at a local yoga studio. She loved to travel with Gail, and others. Her last trip with her Yoga group to Korea for a retreat was her favorite trip. Sharon loved and was loved by many people.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Laura Lea Freeby and is survived by her husband Gail Ray Wolvin, her son David Paul Haggland; her sisters Lolita Marie Hayward and Launa Lea Davis; and nephews Tim, Tony and TJ Freeby, Allen and Charles Hayward, and Leland Davis.
