Sharon Joyce Westman's Obituary
Sharon Joyce Westman, 80, of Dupont, passed away on January 23, 2021 at her home. She was born in Tacoma, Washington to George & Freida Hardtke on March 24, 1940. Sharon graduated from Sumner High School in 1957 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Washington University in 1961.
After meeting Roger Westman while teaching in Everett, they married in 1962, moved to Tacoma, and most recently lived in Dupont, Washington. In addition to her husband Roger, her daughters Kristine Hilly (Sean), Michele Alexander and her grandchildren, Phil, Emily, Lance and Mason, survive her.
In addition to her devotion to family, Sharon was passionate as a teacher of children of all ages. After receiving her teaching credentials, she taught full time in the Everett School District. Upon moving to Tacoma, she taught full time at the Clover Park School District and then was a substitute teacher in the University Place and Steilacoom School Districts. Altogether, she was a teacher for over 55 years.
She also was very involved in her church and loved her community. She was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Lakewood and served on various boards and committees with the church along with the Lakewood Republican Women, Steilacoom Historical Education Foundation, Lutheran Woman’s Missionary League, Delta Kappa Gamma (International Society for Key Women Educators), Campfire and the DuPont Park Agency.
Sharon was an excellent homemaker, enjoyed entertaining in her home and rooting for the WSU Cougars and the Seattle Mariners.
Mountain View Funeral Home will be handling her arrangements and she will be interned at the Tahoma National Cemetery. A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held in late spring or early summer.
