Sharon Lynn (Mitchell) Horrigan

Sharon has ended her long battle with Alzheimer's, passing away peacefully in Tacoma on Tuesday, Sept 4, 2018.
Born at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington, Sharon was the eldest child of Edward and Frances Mitchell. Her parents, sister Sandra and brother Bill preceded her in death. As a young girl, she moved to Occupied Japan with her military parents, before becoming a student at the Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, graduating in 1958. She practiced her profession until 2009, almost all at Tacoma General.
Exceling in her profession for over 50 years, she was a founding member of Tacoma General's IV Therapy department, and served as the Washington chapter president of the National IV Therapy Association (NITA) from 1978-81. She became a national board officer of NITA, setting national protocols for that medical specialty. She gave many lectures across the nation to medical professionals, and was published in NITA's national journal. She was named and in 2001 was named Member of the Year by the Infusion Nurses Association.
Recognized as a foremost expert in I.V. therapy, she held many classes for medical professionals, her final ones being professionally videographed for future students.
She is survived by her husband Patrick Horrigan, daughter Cathleen (Bill) Osborn, son Kevin Coggin, brother Paul (Nancy) Mitchell, grandsons Jeff & Joe Osborn, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services and a reception will be held at Mountain View Memorial Home on Friday, September 28, 2018, beginning at 1 p.m.
