Shanika N. Johnson's Obituary
Shanika Nicole (“Nika”) Johnson, 42, was born on August 16, 1983, in Landstuhl, Germany, to Reginald and Barbara Johnson, and passed away on February 28, 2026.
As an Air Force brat, Nika grew up around the world but considered Washington state home. Known for her love, compassion, honesty, wittiness, and inviting spirit, Nika brought joy to her family, friends, and anyone who met her. She enjoyed learning about history in any form and could often be found listening to podcasts. Nika also loved cooking, creating new recipes for her family to try, and had an eye for interior decorating.
If you were ever down or felt lonely, Nika was the person with a smile and a hug that drew you in. Believing that no one deserved to feel unwanted, Nika fought hard to ensure she supported and loved others, no matter what. While she may arrive late, once there, Nika would roll up her sleeves to help and stay long after, talking. She also loved animals! Even from a young age, she wanted to feed the ducks and pet all the dogs; her favorite being pit bulls.
Nika is survived by her son, Canaan Johnson, her dad, Reginald Johnson, her mom, Barbara Johnson, her brother, Marquise Johnson, her sister, Natasha Johnson, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is predeceased by her son, Reginald Xavier Johnson, her grandmother, Barbara Ann Creech, and grandfather, Eugene Creech, Jr., and paternal grandmother Gussie Mae Howard.
Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Transformation Ministries International, 2001 South J Street, Tacoma Washington 98405
